“Cortland, N.Y. — Branden Brown always toyed with the idea of how to bring back the milkman.
His wife, Rebekah, is part of the fourth generation to operate Trinity Valley Dairy Farm in Cortland, connecting to a farming tradition that dates back more than 100 years. Their children likely will make up the fifth. The farm produces a traditional Creamline version of milk, where the cream floats on the top. They don’t use growth hormones.
Everything is old-school.
So bringing back home delivery seemed to fit nicely into the farm’s image, a symbol that would emphasize its traditional approach to dairy. And with families looking to remain safe and worry-free amid the coronavirus pandemic, Brown saw the opportunity to fill a new need by reaching into the past.
“We’re pretty old-fashioned,” Brown said. “So I love that old-fashioned simple mentality of home delivery. People are buying local now. We’ve always wanted to do it, but when was the right time? This is helping people right now. People are very forgiving if you don’t get it quite right. What better time to try it?”
So, as of last week, the milkman returned to Cortland for the first time in years, offering home delivery for Trinity Valley’s milk and a host of other products. Along with its milk production facility, Trinity Valley has a country store filled with homemade and locally-produced items.”
